How Stop Service Control Manager form Starting Something?

N

Nehmo Sergheyev

Windows XP Home (SP1)
When I go to
Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Choose
System
I get an occasional red circle with white X
"Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 1/13/2004
Time: 2:31:17 PM
User: N/A
Computer: PRIMARY
Description:
The Concord EyeQ Duo 2000 USB Video Capture V1.00 service failed to
start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."

[I'm sure the answer is somewhere on the MS site, but I couldn't find it
with a brief search. I thought it'd be - pardon me ;-) - easier to ask
here.]

This if form some camera software I installed and later uninstalled.
Apparently, the Service Control Manager is trying to start it every once
in a while. I couldn't find anything relevant in the registry, but
there's probably something I missed. Anyway, how do I stop SCM from
trying to start the service?

Hi,

Start/run services.msc, look for the service in question here. Double-click
it and you should be able to disable it.

Try Run -> services.msc . If you find Concord EyeQ, right click ->
Properties -> Startup Type and disable it.

Someone in this NG recommended
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm for a description of services
and dependencies. I found it useful.

I already looked there. That starts Micorsoft Management Console (with
"Services" in the title bar) and the service in question isn't listed
there - unless it's listed with a completely different name. How do I
get to Service Control Manager? That, apparently, is what tries to
start the Concord EyeQ Duo 2000 USB Video Capture V1.00 service.

I found it under a sub- (I think that's what it's called) key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CoachCap

I exported and copied it as text. Here it is:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CoachCap]

Should I delete the key? Should I just change the "Start"=dword: ?
The whole Concord program is already uninstalled.

Hi,

Beings it is already uninstalled the Service is no longer needed. You can
delete it. If you are unsure (no need to be) then change the dword value to
Disabled.
"Start"=dword:00000004

Another option to consider:

In services take note of the "Service Name"(not display name). Then go to
Start/Run/CMD and type in: sc delete <service name>. Reboot.
