I'd like to know if I can send a single MP3 to another PC. This particular
PC only uses Hotmail - so an MP3 file would be too large. I'd like for the
person at the other end to easily be able to play the MP3. Possible? How?
Thanks......

You could do it a few different ways.
1 - use a file transfer in any instant message program such as Windows
Messenger.
2 - post it on your website if you have one.
3 - if the computers are in the same house/room you could network them then
transfer files.
4 - put the file on a cd and bring/send it to them.
5 - both use a file sharing program like winmx and they can download the
file from you or someone else.
6 - if your email gives you enough MB to send it, the other person could up
the space on their hotmail account so they could recieve it.
And more advanced options would be to set up an FTP server so they can
download the file from you directly.

Thanks for the reply:

I use MSN Messenger 6.1. Can I transfer a file as large as 6MB using this
method?

Don't have one.

Computers are in different States.
4 - put the file on a cd and bring/send it to them.

Want to do this over the Internet - I should have stated this.
5 - both use a file sharing program like winmx and they can download the

Please tell me how to set this up. I'm not familiar with the method.

Not posible.

This sounds like a good option. Will you help me? What software do I need,
etc. Thanks.............

Another way is to go to download.com and search for "file splitter", there
are a few free ones that work well. Of course the person you send it to
needs a copy also but it allows you to break a large file into as many
smaller ones as you want to email easily. I sent a 25mb file to a friend in
6 pieces and it worked just fine.

If you are "ripping" from a CD, consider using .WMA instead of .MP3. The
Windows Media Player will allow you to set the bandwidth for the conversion and
I have found that you can use 64kbps and get audio quality virtually
indistinguishable from 128kbps MP3. The file sizes are 2-3MB for a typical
track. If you went down another notch to 32kbps you'd be at 1-2MB and probably
still not notice if playing it on a PC. Since I don't know the current limits
for hotmail I can't tell if this will help, so let me know.

You're welcome. Make sure to check the other responses too, they are all
good ideas.

Also note that besides the stand-alone file-splitting programs,
almost all the well-known zip utilities have this capability.
