some ways:
make a database with two columns. column A with states. column B wit
relative position (east, west, north, south) with respect t
mississippi.
now, create a pivot table out of it. put the relative position in th
row area and states in the data area. now, select East from the ro
area drop down. you will get all the states that are east o
mississippi river in the data area.
alternately, you can use data filter, and filter by East. if you are
little adventurous, try advanced filter with filter in place option
this will get rid of those annoying drop down arrows.
else, create a map of USA while delineating vividly the path charted b
mississippi river, tag (very nice functionality in visual basic) th
relative position to each of the states and send this excel file to me
i will figure out a macro that provide a list of all the states that ar
east of mississippi.
this has got my creative juices flowing. if i can find more ways o
finding states east of mississippi river by using an excel spreadshee
employing VB macros, i will surely post here
