How many gallons?

whats a simple formula for calculating the total gallons of a tank. If cell
a1 has the height, cell b1 has the width, cell c1 has the length. Most tanks
are square or rectangular, some are round. Does that matter? Thanks in
advance!

You didn't say if is UK or US gallons. If the former, this should help

PS Use Google to find the equivalent formula for round, or even spherical,
tanks

Hi,

The volums of an irregular shape such as a vehicle fuel tank is very
difficult to calculate but as an approximation and for a roughly regular cube
shaped tank try this

Say(and all dimensions are in mm, the conversion will come later)
A1 B1 C1

200 500 500

To get the volume in M3
F1 =(A1*B1*C1)/(1000*1000*1000) = 0.0625 metre cubed

calculating for litres we then get
F1*1000= 62.5litres

1 lt petrol = 0.219969157 gallons so

0.219969157*62.05 = 13.75 gallons

All of which can go horribly wrong depending on temperature as well as the
irregular shape of the tank.
