How many Characters can a cell hold in Excel 2000

Some people have told me that a cell in Excel can only
hold 256 characters. It appears to me in Excel 2000 one
cell can hold more. How many characters can a cell hold
in Excel 2000?

It is 32k, but remember, only 1024 will display in the
cell, while all 32767 will display in the formula bar.
Also, the limit is 1024 for formulas.
