How in Word 2007 do you Clear Recent Document Screen

In previous editions of Word, I could clear the Recent Document Screen of no
longer existing documents. I can't find how to do that in Word 2007?
 
Reportedly, there is no way to do this. You can set the MRU number to 0, but
when you reset it to a higher number, the documents that were on the list
before reappear. And apparently they can't be deleted using Ctrl+Alt+Hyphen,
either. There may be a way to do it by editing the Registry.
