How "erase" or destroy a CD? Brief poll

We receive CDs someimes with confidential internal info and after no longer
needed, would like to dispose of them. I wondered how others erase or
dispose of CD's, especially if there's a cleaner, high tech way than
below...

1. Break in half and throw away (drawback is that the plastic can splinter
and fly around)

2. Melt on gas stove (Drawbacks are there often isn't one, and it's a
hazard anyway)

3. Stick it in a microwave oven for a few seconds (also provides a nice light
show).

Many of the multi-sheet paper shredders today have the ability to destroy
credit cards and CDs.

Sharp object. (Or dull - anything to scratch it deeply/badly.)
Nail polish remover.
Nail Polish.
Fold them in many pieces
(Why anyone would use their bare hands/exposed face is beyond me.
Put them in a thick towel before folding!)
Microwave.
Hammer.
Hatchet.
Soak them in gasoline overnight.
Lighter fluid.
Skeet shooting targets.

Or how about purchasing one of the more expensive paper shredding devices
that shreds CDs too. And when I say "more expensive" I am merely comparing
to the cheaper paper shredders one would use for 1-5 sheets of paper. Some
shredders out there even have special places to allow you to put CDs.
Usually they are the same ones that shred 10+ pages at a time.

Microwave.

This is the best option... about 4 seconds should do it.
Gives excellent visual confirmation of the destruction...
fun to watch, too. Make good xmas ornaments after
the process.

Scissors.

Go to your local home store and buy a bag of quick drying cement and a bucket.

Pour cement and mix with water into the bucket

Take cd(s) and push down into the middle of the cement and wait 24 hours to
dry.

Take bucket and drive to your nearest airport or airfield.

Rent a helicopter or plane and fly over the middle of ocean

Throw bucket over and fly back home, drive back to work and pretend
everything is ok.

Rent a lie detector and practice denying anything regarding the above.

With these helpful steps, I think you won't have any problems in the future.

PS: Supposedly this methods works for unwanted people and financial data
too.....

Shredders that will take a CD exist.

I use the hi tech tool call pruning shears. I chop the miscreant CD into
very small pieces so that nobody can identify the disk without lots and lots
of work.

I drill a small hole about 1/4 inch from the edge of a CD. Then I
thread kite twine through the hole to hang the CD from my peach tree or
grape vines, to scare the birds away from the ripening fruit.

I reuse these CDs for about 2-3 years, after which the coating weathers
and begins to peal away.
