My Vista recently decided to no longer recognize me as a user and I had to
start over and bring it all back up, but there are huge holes in what I used
to have. I'm basically fighting one thing at a time and hopefully, will get
it back the way it used to be, I dunnoh.

My Windows Mail I had to start over from scratch and set up. I had loads of
very important e-mails in my previous Windows Mail. Is there any way to
recover these e-mails?

Thanks,

Bob

How did you start WinMail from scratch?
Are you sure you don't have a Recovered Mail folder?

Frank, when I was able to get into my "User", again, I had no e-mail set up,
so I created an account, and put in all the stuff required to be able to
send and receive email. Nothing changed as far as my email address, but all
the various folders I had previously, were not there.

Please, if you can tell me where I might find a "recovered mail folder", I'd
really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Bob

Please define what you mean by "start over."
Did you reinstall Vista? If so, look for a directory named Windows.old.

Yes, I reinstalled Vista. I can go into the directory and see all of my old
stuff (can even see my Windows Mail Directory, which has mostly .dll files
and applications). I'll do a search for "Windows.old" and see what I can
come up with.

Thanks,

Bob

No, Robert, I did not enable the hidden and system files, first, but I just
ran another scan doing so. The only thing I'm seeing is Windows Older Tools
Resources.

As an after thought, and I didn't mention this, because I can go to my old
user directory and see what all was there, I have everything backed up on an
external drive, also, before Vista went south on me. I still don't see
anything about "old mail", even though I can see my Windows Mail directory
and different files in it (again, mostly .dll's and application files).

If you have a backup of your hard drive, the old emails will be here:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders\

Gary, thank you. I've gotten closer with your recent input, but when I go
back to my backed up files June 2 or earlier, I quickly find the files you
suggested, but the only files in there are stationary files. If I go to
today's, I find everything (the various emails files that I have created) I
have as of now, but nothing from my old Windows Mail.

I'm thinking this might be one of those life lessons that I'm learning, but
I'm not ready to give up, yet.

Thanks,

Bob

I don't know of any other locations where those .eml files
could be, except in the folders under Local Folders.
