For some reason my XP machine tells me that i do not have
access to my services menu however i can get into my
regedit i found where the messenger service information is
but i don't know what field to change to turn it off. Can
anyone help?

Greetings Brad,

If you don't have access to the Services applet, then most likely you don't have access to
change the part of the registry where this is stored. However, the Messenger Service can be
turned off by downloading and running the following .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/disablemessengersvc.reg

Keep in mind this is for the Messenger Service -- not Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger.
