How do you tell?

I have a three year old Athelon box, running Windows 2000.
I want to put in a RAID 0 controller
How do you tell if you have ATA, Ultra ATA or Serial ATA?

I am mostly doing this to speed up a file intensive app.
Would an external RAID unit be as fast as an internal unit?
Can you recomend any good one?

Your box is too old for SATA. It probably has U/100; look at what
the BIOS displays during booting for the ATA speeds on the HDs.

Dude said he wants to put in a controller.

Maybe. But what he asked is how to tell what he already had, and
that's the issue to which I replied.
