I have followed both sets of the instructions to the letter but can only get
repetitive numbering.. i.e. 1,1,1,1,1,. I want consecutive just like the
instructions say I am going to get 1,2,3,4,5,... thanx

put in 1, Enter, 2, enter, Select both cells and then drag the corner of
the border down to fill.

Which instructions are these?

Put 1 in A1 and 2 in A2, then highlight both cells and then drag the
fill handle (the small black square in the bottom right corner of the
highlighted area) down as far as you need.

Alternatively, put 1 in A1, highlight the cells you want this to apply
to (eg A1:A15), click on Edit | Fill | Series (which should default to
an increment of 1) and click OK.

There are quite a few other ways, as well.

Hope this helps.

Hold down the Ctrl key while you drag the starting cell's fill handle.

Cell A1 enter 1
Cell A2 enter =A1+1
Copy A2 down as far as you need to

One more................

Enter 1 in A1

Right-click on the fill handle and drag down.

Release button and select "Fill Series"
