How do you make cells smaller?

You could also try zooming out from the View menu. 80% zoom is a good fit I
like to work with.
 
Of course, if you work with any non-sheet objects (shapes and charts),
working at other than 100% sometimes has strange side-effects. I used to
work at 90% all the time, but not any more.
