How do you fix a virus that shuts down AV programs?

I have a virus which slows everything down to a crawl.
why don't they ship rescue disks like they used too?
how do you delete a boot sector virus when you don't have one?

What virus do you have? How do you know you have a boot sector virus?
What, if any anti-virus are you using that doesn't provide the option
to make rescue disks? Can you be a bit more vague?

You don't.

You reformat your drive, including the boot sector, and
try, try again...

Boot using bootdisk with write protect tab enabled. Type FDISK/MBR at
command prompt.

Also F-Prot runs off two floppies.

Thanks for the help, turns out that I did not have a boot sector virus, but
a startup worm virus thing. After booting in safemode I was able to clean it
from a networked computer. Had 12 different viruses! Attached to 300 files.
