How do you direct connect a laptop to pc?

Laptop has Vista Home Premium and PC Has XP Pro SP2.
What's the fastest/best to use: USB, RJ45, Parallel port? And how do I tell
Vista which protocol to use to connect to the PC?

I have a ton of files (80+GB) that I need to burn to CD on the laptop and
doing it through the LAN is too slow.

Are you trying to shares file and folder or wanna access the xp data?? As for
burning, you can alway burn directly from the laptop since your laptop should
comes with a cd rom

The burner on my PC is kaput so copying files to laptop to burn

Just enable file and folder sharing in xp by doing the following>>
Right–click the folder and then click Sharing and Security. The Sharing tab
of the Properties dialog box for the folder opens.

Ensure that under network sharing and security, the check box for share this
folder on the network and allow network users to change my files is tick

Once you done the above, go to vista and try mapping the IP of your window
xp pc by doing the following step \\192.168.121 (say if that the IP of your
window xp desktop)

Alternatively get your hand on another burner, imo it would save you lot's
of hassle and time, moreover nowsday burner are cheap.

The other alternative is to get a usb external drive and copy the files over
