I am taking a computer class and we are using Office 2000 learning material
but we have Office XP and there are a few differences. It tells us to insert
a table and then to AutoFormat in with Colorful 1 Autoformat. I am not able
to find this option anywhere. Thanks for any future help

Do you mean Color Fill > Automatic? It works the same. When you insert a table
and it is selected, a "Tables and Boarders" toolbar will pop up. On the
toolbar, to the right, there is a tipped bucket with paint flowing out of it.
Click on the arrow next to it and you'll see the options for "color fill".

Those are directions for formatting a Word table. I teach folks to create
their table in word and insert it into PowerPoint because of accessibility
issues:

Create your table in Word, apply formatting using Word’s Table AutoFormat
feature (click on Table, Table AutoFormat and check the boxes to apply
formatting to the Heading Row and First Column) then copy and paste the table
into PowerPoint.
