How do I use turn GETPIVOTDATA function off?

I want to reference PivotTable data in a formula outside the PivotTable
report without invoking the GETPIVOTDATA function. For example I want to
simply point and click to a cell in the PivotTable (i.e. =A3). I could then
copy this relative reference to other cells. As it now stands, when I point
and click I automatically invoke the GETPIVOTDATA function, which creates
absolute references which I don't want.

View / Toolbars / Pivottable

Now hover over each icon till you find the GETPIVOTDATA toggle button and
then click to turn it off.
