how do I use outlook data on two different instances of outlook

how do I use the outlook data from my desktop on my laptop for travel. I
have two legal copies of outlook. I would like to find a simple way to
easily have the laptop version of the data the same as the desktop verision
when I go on the road.

Copy the pst-file and connect to it by File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

I tried copying the pst file to a cd since the file is so big but it did not
copy. Size is well within the capacity of the cd so I thought maybe there
was something else preventing it. Should I just try again?

Make sure Outlook is closed and that the outlook.exe process isn't running
anymore either. Note that you cannot directly read the pst-file from the CD.
