Hi,

I just watched a presentation where the timeline was visible with a couple
of years highlighted. When he clicked on the year a box would appear with a
description of what happened that year. I can't seem to figure out how to do
this.

Thanks!

Which part can't you figure out. The animation part is easy. Designing a
comprehensible timeline is hard. If the descriptions, come up
sequentially, then normal animation methods work fine. Just animate each
piece in order. If you are using PowerPoint 2002 or above and you want a
click to bring up whatever description is clicked, you will need
animation triggers. There are several good tutorials about animation
triggers online. For example:

Does this mean that I need to create separate identical slides so that the
text pops up then pops down?
