how do i unlock a word file?

I was woriking on an essay and my cat walked over the keyboard and it mad a
beeping sound. It didnt look like anything had happened so I continued
writing,saved my work and existed word. When I returned and tried to tyep I
got the message "This modification is not allowed because this document is
locked" the same message appears even when i try working on a new document. I
can click on protect document or a lot of other stuff which is no longer in
bold?Any ideas on how to fix it?

"Keyboard" seems to be the antecedent of "it," but I don't think the
keyboard did the beeping, either. BTW, when I went to vote in our primary
today, I found that I was not the one who would be voting. According to the
sign: "YOUR ID WILL BE REQUIRED TO VOTE."

Yeah, that was already a lot of words for a sign, so I guess they couldn't
risk a few more, such as "YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHOW ID BEFORE VOTING."
