HOW DO I UNLOCK A NEW DOCUMENT TO START TYPING?

JUST GOT A NEW COMPUTER AND WANT TO USE MY WORD PROGRAM. CANNOT GET STARTED
BCSE WHEN I TRY TO TYPE NOTHING HAPPENS, EXCEPT A NOTE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE
SCREEN TELLING ME THE DOCUMENT IS LOCKED
