I removed W32.Gaobot using antivirus scan to remove
gaobot.

The computer is running ok, but slow. The main problem is
that the virus has blocked some websites including
Symantec.com.

How do I undo the website blocking?

You'll need to edit the hosts file. It puts the below entries in it.
It adds the following lines to the c:\windows\drivers\etc\hosts file, so
that any attempts to connect to these Web sites fail. Delete all the entries
and try the websites again.

I have the problem with not being able to go to anti virus web sites. Removed Gaogot with Norton antivirus. I have cleared the hosts files (6). Problem still there. Is it possible that another host file is hiding somewhere? Another question: Why does hosts file cause this problem anyway? I thought hosts file pertained to network addressing?
