How do i turn on the "do you want to save" prompt in Word 2000.

When I close a Word doc it does not prompt me to save document. The doc will
just close without saving changes.
 
This is not normal. There is an option to prompt you to save the Normal
template, but changes in documents should always trigger a prompt. I would
suggest investigating a virus or add-in (and some add-ins are worse than
viruses) that is causing the problem.
