how do i turn off "you've got mail" voice message in outlook?

when receiving an e-mail in outlook 2003, i get a speech message saying
"you've got mail" or "you've got two new mails." since i use outlook 2003
with several POP accounts, this can get pretty annoying, especially since the
number of mails i supposedly received does not match what's actually ending
up in my inbox.

i admit to having tinkered around with MS Narrator, but Narrator is turned
off (checked repeatedly under windows >> programs >> accessories >>
accessibility >> narrator).

also, there is no sound set up as an alert to incoming messages (tools >>
options >> e-mail options >> advanced e-mail options).

Do you have a Toshiba laptop? I seem to remember something in the back of my
mind that they've got some sort of program that does that

This is not a native Outlook function. It must be some application or add-in
you have installed which does this. IIRC Toshiba delivers laptops by default
with this application (Toshiba Voice).
