When I start to type a word, for example "Jan", the screen shows the word
"January", (and I can press enter to auto complete the word) which is what I
am going to type, however, this is not good for when my children are
practicing their spelling words. Do you know how to turn off this feature?
Please advise. Thank you

Which version of Word are you using? In Word 2003, you can do the following
to turn off the setting: On the Insert menu, point to AutoText, and then
click AutoText. Clear the Show AutoComplete suggestions check box.

Here's how to turn it off in Word 2007: Press Alt+F11 to display the Visual
Basic Editor. Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window. Type

Application.DisplayAutoCompleteTips = False

and press Enter.
