How do I turn off Office Online in a new document?

Every time I open a new Word document, the Microsoft Office Online screen
pops up. It is very annoying and requires clicking the "x" to close it out
each and every time. Also, the office online pops up, when I try to do my
work; another time-waster. Anyone with any ideas, please respond. Thanks.

Press F1 to open the generic Help task pane. At the bottom of the pane,
click on Online Content Settings. Clear the check box for "Search online
content when connected" and any other options that seem unnecessary to you.

My version of Microsoft (Basic 2003 Edition) does not have the option
"online content settings" on the generic Help task pane. I did search other
options, but was unable to find a suitable topic to answer my problem. But
thanks for the input. Perhaps, someone else out there can help with this
version. Thanks.

Did you press F1 to open the task pane? This is the same pane you get if you
click on Help in the task pane list. "Online Content Settings" should be the
last listing in the task pane, under "See also." You can also access this
dialog by clicking on Service Options on the General tab of Tools | Options.

Finally found what you were tqlking about and went in and cleared everything
out. I even restarted the computer, just to make sure everything worked as I
wanted it to. However, I still have the start up screen when I open a word
document. But I have found a doable way to deal with that; I just moved the
start up pane over to the right and I can see the whole new pane for the new
Word document. Thanks for you help.

Ah, I think I got the wrong end of the stick to begin with; it's not Word
connecting to Office Online that you're annoyed by, it's the Startup task
pane. If you have already disabled it (Tools | Options | View: Startup task
pane), and that didn't work, get the Task Pane Controller add-in from
