How do I turn iterations off permanently?

I have an application that has iteration turned on, and each time that I
change a cell value a new iteration starts. How do I turn this off
permanently. Automatic update is turned on.

In Excel97 you go to your Tools menu / Options / Calculation and
uncheck Iterations.
 
Thanks for the fast response. I should have been more specific. I'm running
Office 2003 on XP and I do uncheck iterations, but it 'magically' turns
itself back on and reasserts itself.

Calculation tab settings are determined by the first workbook opened in
Excel. Possibly this is the setting in your personal.xls.
