How do I transfer a powerpoint presentation into a PDF file

You would need to install the full version of Adobe Acrobat (not
just the free Acrobat Reader), or one of its shareware/freeware
clones, and then print the presentation to the Acrobat PDFWriter
printer to create a PDF file.

Yup, that's the ticket. But one minor nit to pick:

Nowadays it's the Adobe PDF printer that gets installed.

Adobe renamed the old Distiller Assistant to this and discontinued PDFWriter (a
different driver that also shipped with Acrobat) a few versions back.
