In Microsoft Outlook 2003 (from office standard edition 2003 for students and
teachers) I get a voice informing me "you've got mail" or "you've got 2 new
mails" each time an email arrives. This didn't used to happen and I can't
pinpoint what I did to trigger it. How do I turn off this annoying feature?
Thanks

Are you using a Toshiba? This is a feature of Toshiba Voice and is
controlled by that application, not Outlook. Look in Control Panel.

Thank you to both Brian and Chris for attempting to reply.

My post allowed me to find an old post with the same problem. Here is the
answer that worked for me:

With Outlook open, go to Tools, Reading Options (find this at the very
bottom of the menu), uncheck "inform mail receiving"

That removes the annoying voice saying "you've got mail" and still allows a
beep or ding or chime or whatever you choose from Control Panel. It seems to
also stop the "ghost" notification at the bottom of the screen, but that's
something for another day. Thanks again.
