how do i stop my Word files from opening up in Works format?

Before I installed my new 2003 Office Professional, I composed a few
documents in Works. I then removed them. Now that I am using Word, when I
go into My Documents and select Word documents, they all open in Works
format...which isn't pleasing to look at!!

Is there a default setting somewhere that needs to be changed? I don't use
Works anymore.

What *exactly* do you mean by 'open in Works format' in this context?

I suspect it means that Word needs to be reregistered because Word docs are
opening in Works instead of Word.
