How do I stop my laptop trying to connect to my neighbour's wlan?

My laptop (Sony VAIO Z1 running XP Professional) continually sees both mine
and my neighbour's wireless AP. It prompts me to select one and within
seconds disconnects me. In the "Advanced" dialog box there is an option to a)
prioritise my own network and b) remove the rival one - but it constantly
re-appears. There must be a setting change I can make on the laptop to make
it either ignore the rival network or automatically do what I am doing
manually every 3 minutes, ie choose my own network.

Similar problem, and a good answer would probably fix both these problems:
My daughter's computer (XP Home) uses wireless networking to connect to our
broadband router. Works great. Unfortunately, it also works to connect to
various other unsecured routers in the area, and consequently I have
completely lost control of when and where she goes online. Is there a way to
stop XP from automatically signing on to new wireless networks without
stopping it from using our network?

Paul and Thomas,

1) Make sure that your SSID is being broadcast.
2) Make sure that you're using the Windows wireless client program.
3) Designate your SSID as the only Preferred network.
4) Under Advanced, disable "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks".
