how do I stop deleted item folder from opening unread mail

When I delete unread mail into my deleted items box, it opens them. How can I
stop it from doing this? I don't open all mail as some is spam and every time
I delete it, as soon as it enters my delete box, it opens.

What do you mean by "it opens". When you select a message and click Delete,
it will be moved into Deleted Items and removed from the folder view you're
using. It won't open in a window on your screen.

It likely isn't the Deleted Items folder, but more likely is your preview
pane options.

Verify in Tools Options that Mark item as read when selection changes is not
checked and the Wait __ seconds is set sufficiently high enough to not fire
for spam messages, but still fire for messages you regularly read.

Or just shut of the preview/reading pane.

I mean its hows up as being opened in my deleted items box, it shows the
envelope
open as though I have read the message when I haven't

Did you look at the settings I mentioned in my post?
