how do i stop auto creating desktop shortcuts in word?

It sounds as if you have set the desktop as the default folder for Word on
the File Locations tab of Tools | Options. Try setting it to My Documents
instead.

the desktop is not set as the default folder. i looked there already. it's
set to my documents. any other suggestions?
