How do I setup a website that register users with unique usernam &

Is it possible to wet up my website so browers can register, login and logout
with unique usernames and passwords that they create? Also, is it possbile
to for these users once logged in to have a "personalized" page? Please post
if anyone has any comments or ideas :)
 
Yes, but requires custom server-side scripting, such as ASP, ASP.net or PHP and a database
