How do I set up an automatic running average in Excel

I have tried to find the answer How do I set up an automatic running average
in Excel several times and had no luck. Can anyone help?

What do you want to average and where is it?

I am using my Excel to enter vehicle mileage and fuel cost information. I
added a row for the overall average of fuel mileage for all fuel entries and
would like Excel to keep the overall average for me without having to enter
it manually.

Hi!

Trying to get detailed info is sometimes worse than pulling teeth! <g>

If your mileage data is in column A and you add new data to it on a regular
basis:

=AVERAGE(A:A)

Just don't put the formula in column A.
