How do I set up an alternate task pad?

I would like to setup a separate calendar with a separate task pad. I have
created a new calendar and a new task folder but when I view the calendar the
task pad is not there. Under the views pull down, "task pad view" is
underintensified.

You can't - it only appears with the default calendar folder view.
