How do I send Out of Office reply to external customers?

Our office would like to use the Out of Office Assistant and have it reply to
customers outside of our exchange server. Is this possible? He have not
been able to find a way yet to do this.
 
It's possible and I think it's a setting on the Exchange server about
allowing automated replies to external/Internet mail items

It's a setting in your Exchange server.
