how do I see text through autoshapes & print it

Originally, I filled in the worksheet with my information. Then I used
autoshapes (rectangles with gradient fill) to color my worksheet. Where the
fill is light, the text shows through ok. Darker colored areas are softer
text. How do I place text on top of autoshapes so that it is equally dark
through out? I am trying to avoid making text boxes and copy, pasting text
out its cells. Also, right now when I print, even though print preview shows
colors & text, the text does not show up on my paper. I have used "order" but
it does not make a difference. Thanks

Two possibilities: If you are using Excel 2003, double
click the autoshape and use the transparency slider. Or,
select the range of cells you want to color and then use
the fill color palette.

In Excel XP there is an option for transparency, set this to 100% and it may
fix your problem.

another alternative is to save your gradient filled box as a picture and use
it as a background.
