How do I save a gif or jpg in IE?

I have done everything that I can find to do. I have gone to
:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810978/EN-US/

I have Open IE, Tools/Internet Options/ delete temp files.
and have deleted all temp files.

I have Corel Photo Paint, Jasc Paint Shop Pro and all the Adobe's. So I have
all the programs need to display jpg format and .gif's files as well.

I have also change the amount of space to 250, it is recommended 50 to 250.
Because I save a lot of animated gif's I set it to 250. So, I know I have
plenty of space for temps now and from becoming overloaded.

Yet, still after doing all of the above, I still can not save anything but
in a bmp format. I have even typed in the file name and added the correct
file type, such as jpg or gif etc. I still get only bmps. After I have saved
an animated gif, I go to check it out and it is no longer animated in my
folder where I save all my gifs.

I have been working on this for 3 days and have searched every area I know
to find a answer and I can't find one.
Even on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810978/EN-US/....... All the Fix's
they
suggested for me to do, did not work. I did them all.

I am on AOL and want to use ony the stand alone Windows Internet Explorer,
but until I can fix this problem I am stuck with useing AOL program in order
to save my gif's and jpg's files.

If anyone has found an answer to this problem, please let me know.

I do agree at this point we need or I need a MVP to step in and help.

Thanks for letting me bend you ears and hope someone can help me.

(It's a gif file)

You need to download www.IE7.com and give it a try.

That is an ongoing problem to which I have never found a solution. Well, not
with IE - the solution I did find, which also fixed numerous crashes, was to
switch to Firefox.

Mary Ellen,

Run 'System File Checker'

* insert WinXP CD
* Start > Run > type sfc /scannow (note space bewteen sfc /), click OK
* Scan should begin verifying files
* when scan completes, eject CD & restart computer

Yes, I can save this as a gif..I am very sorry, I left one thing out of my
question...this is a website and yes, I just went and gave it a try and yes,
I could save it as a gif. From a website. But, Than I went to my email and
tired again to save a animated gif from an email and no, it will only let me
save bmps! So, I have no problem in saving from websites but my problem is
saving gifs from email. Anyone have an answer to this. I have already changed
all my setting with AOL to allow me to save all type's of files. So, I know
my AOL setting are set right. Also, if I use AOL to sign on, I have just
saved a gif from an email. So, it is with IE, I think! Where do I go from
here?
Thanks for all the great response, You guys are better than any Tech help I
have gotten by phone!!! :)

Never used OE, suggestions are www.iE7.com (firefox) - it has
Thunderbird as a news/mail reader.

Xnews is another good choice
http://www.download.com/3000-2164-10144167.html
For a non-web based reader (like OE)
Set-up: http://www.slyck.com/xnews.php

As mention'd by Drew Tognola, SFC is an option.
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
but it's honestly more trouble than it's worth.

No hold button and we don't have to answer the call :)

I did run SFC and everything went smoothly, but it made no change in IE and
still can't save from e-mail anything but bmp's. I did talk to my son, he is
a computer nerd, LOL does web pages and all knds of printing and graphics. He
said that it was a builtin security for IE. He said that jpg's and gif's are
what carry most virus'. Both are compressed files. When you save them to you
hard drive you really never know what is in them. But bmp's are not
compressed. What you see on the screen is what you get and what you save. So,
he has suggested to lok into my security settings for IE. That have tight
security may be the probelm. I am going there now to see if I can let up on
the security and see if that will make a difference. If it does, I will be
back to let you know. OK
Mean while I guess I will keep useing AOL software. I do want to thank
everyone for all the help and I have downloaded IE7 and it does the same
thing!!!

thanks!!!!!
