I refomatted my Windows 2000 OS. I backed up my outlook and favorites to a
flash drive. I transferred them back after completing the reformat. Now I
am trying to retrieve the contacts and email to use in outlook. How can I do
this?

You backed up the pst-file? Then connect to it by File-> Open-> Outlook Data
File...

In your account settings you can specify it as the default delivery location
so mail will get delivered to it instead of to a new file.

Additional instructions depend on your Outlook version.
