Can someone tell me how Ican remove file information in an MP3 file?
Things like artist name etc.

This is causing me problems.
I'm splitting up audio books into 5 minute chunks to listen to on my
Sony Ericsson W800i.
I'll rename the files into names like 1.mp3, 2.mp3, 3.mp3 etc.

The problem is that the damn software on the phone and PC mangles up
the first and last files because they have the extra info and renames
the files and therefore screws up my order of files!

Wasn't sure where else I could ask.

Thanks.

I have just removed the information from a load of music files by right
clicking on the mp3 and selecting properties.

Thanks for the reply.
I can right click and see properties.
But I can't edit them.
How are you doing it?

This is how I did it (and do it)
Right Click
Select Properties
Select Summary
Select Advance
Click on a name or title or tag
Rename - Delete - Whatever.

How does this help anything, John? I don't have the OP's problem
but when I looked at properties, all I see is a partial song
name and no artist, even though I know both are there and
correct.

what you want is called an ID3 Tagging utility; there are tons of them out
there.

the ID3 data within an MP3 holds that artist, track, title, etc info that
can be displayed. ID3 has two versions, V1 and V2. You want to get an
editior that supports both versions. I think the standard XP properties
only looks at the V2 ID3 info.

one that I like is called Taggin'MP3, there are many others too, google
for them. Taggin'MP3 can easily delete either V1 or V2 tags, as well as
edit them and perform other global changes on large sets of tags. Most of
the stand-alone utilites do a better job of manageing tags than the
built-in tag editors of the various media players.

BTW, WMP 9+10 just _love_ to update a file's V2 ID3 tag every time you
play the file; the only way to stop it from doing that is to mark the file
as read-only. So, even if you delete the tag, WMP will re-make it next
time you play the file. arghhhhhh....
