how do i remove duplicate op systems

It was necessary for me to re load XP Home from my emergency disc, and now
when I boot, setup stops and makes me choose between two operating systems,
both names the same thing.
The first one works fine.
the second one does not boot up.

Is there a way to remove the second one....or make the first a default, so I
don't get bothered with that step again.

Edit the BOOT.INI and get rid of the one you do not want/need.
