How Do I Remove a Second Operating System ?

I just got a new computer, and loaded it with Windows XP
(from a "dead machine"). The loading seemed to go fine,
but now when I boot up the computer, it asks me whick
operating system to load, and lists two versions of
Windows XP Pro.
It looks like I've loaded the system on twice ! How do I
remove the second system ? I can't find any info. in the
Help files for this.

Edit the Boot.ini file.
Remove the Additional Operating System entry

You can also try and go to the Startup Options under My
Computer.. Advanced and Uncheck the option for displaying
a Menu for 30 Sec.

Hi Tom,

Are there actually two system folder sets?

If not, start/run msconfig, go to the boot.ini tab and click "check all boot
paths". You should be prompted to remove the invalid one.

If there are, first remove (delete) the system folders belonging to the
unwanted system from Windows Explorer after booting into the installation
you wish to keep. Then start/run msconfig and go to the boot.ini tab, click
on the line referencing the installation you want to keep, then on "set as
default". Click apply/ok and reboot. Return to this tab afterwards and click
the "check all boot paths" line.

hi,
Open your boot.ini and remove the entry from the not
functional xp. Or go to system, advanced, startsettings
and set the working partition and remove the entry below.

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig
Then go to the Boot.ini Tab and click on Check All Boot Paths. If you
receive a warning about a duplicate path: Do you want to remove, choose
yes.

Or...

Right click the My Computer icon/Properties/Advanced/Startup and
Recovery/Settings/System Startup/Edit.
