I have tried to change the default in the Interner Options and the http://qus8.hpwis.com keeps coming up. Also, how does this happen? I currently have zone alarm and Norton Antivirus. How can I avoid this in the future? It is quite a pain in the behind! :<) THX

Download Ad-Aware 6.0 and scan your PC for the presence of spyware:

Zone Alarm will help, but unfortunately will not do it all. Norton won't
either.

This site is an excellent place to start to clean up your current hijacker,
it also answers your question on how to avoid future attacks:
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
Download all recommended programs in No.1,
Follow the instruction in No. 2 & 3 for using the programs. And there are
help & FAQ at the download sites of the programs.
It is a good idea to run these programs in safe mode. Instructions for Safe
Mode here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=315222
Also turn OFF System Restore:
Right click My Computer > go to properties > on the System Restore Tab >
check Turn Off System Restore on all Drives, Reboot. You can enable System
Restore once you have cleaned up all the Spyware.
Follow through with preventative measures

I have looked over the recommendations and I have run Ad Aware and SpyBot to no avail. I can download some of the other programs but is it possible to just download and reinstall IE 6 and over write this problem?

Please help?

No a reinstall will not help. It will probably make things worse.
As mentioned in the link, if you *updated* Ad-aware & Sypbot before you
scanned, and tried CWS, and they still didn't help, the best thing to do is
download Hijack This & post a log to one of the forums, just like the link
said.

Greetings --

To deal with issues caused by any sort of "adware" and/or
"spyware,"such as Gator, Comet Cursors, Smiley Central, Xupiter,
Bonzai Buddy, or KaZaA, and their remnants, that you've deliberately
(but without understanding the consequences) installed, two products
that are quite effective (at finding and removing this type of
scumware) are Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and SpyBot Search &
Destroy from www.safer-networking.org/. Both have free versions.
It's even possible to use SpyBot Search & Destroy to "immunize" your
system against most future intrusions. I use both and generally
perform manual scans every week or so to clean out cookies, etc.

Additionally, manual removal instructions for the most common
varieties of scumware are available here:

Thanks to all for their helpful posts. Last night I ran through the "Quick Fix" that was recommended and it solved the problem. Unfortunately, it took so much time to investigate and eradicate the problem.

I have read that Spyware Blaster will keep spywarea from loading onto the computer - is this a good product or is there something better?

Again thank you all for your precious time and help!
