How do I reduce the size of the outlook backup.pst in Outlook 200.

When attempting to move an email from the "Inbox" to another email folder I'm
getting a pop up box that states "The file c:\docs and
sttg's\admin\mydocs\outlook\backup.pst has reached it's maximum size. To
reduce the amount of data in this file, select some items that you no longer
need, then permanently (shift+del) delete them."

I've tried compacting the backup.pst file subfolder in the Outook file
folder which didn't work to allow the requested action.

What version of outlook - your subject line was truncated as it was too
long -
What size are all your pst files?
If its outlook2k there is a size limit to any pst of 2gb, allthough problems
can occur at 1.6gb

Thanks for getting back to me. It's Outlook 2002. I understand there is a 2GB
limit on size. According to the pop up instructions I need to go into the
file and delete some info but I can't open it to do so. Tried compacting it
to reduce space but that didn't work, either.

If you are able to open the backup pst within OL, create a new data file &
move data to it.
And if you are using the default OL backup addin configure it to backup to a
newname pst - it will be created when run
Also look at the archive options, maybe create archives by year?
OL doesnt have to be open to use 'reduce file size tool'
