How do I rebuild the toolbars/menu? They are gone

My father has Word and he called me to look at his system. He has lost all
menu's and toolbars. There is the top blue bar, and then the ruler feature,
but no file/edit etc, no icons...nothing. How do I get those back? I used
the help feature but it talks about customizing, not restoring.

Thank you very much. I copied the link and sent it to my father....and told
him NOT to try this, I would. I will let you know if this works once I get
to his house this week. I appreciate the quick response.

You should let him at least try starting with the /a switch. That alone
often fixes the problem, and if it does, so much the better. If not, you can
perform the Registry edit when you get there. Meanwhile, if starting in Safe
Mode once doesn't fix the problem permanently, he can continue to start in
Safe Mode in order to have access to the Menu Bar.
