how do I reactivate the search engine

I used to be able to go to Search Address Book- and type in a word or two and
it would search through my contacts... now it seems to be disabled and I do
not know how to reactivate it. I have Microsoft Office Word 2007
 
Which Search method are you using. Instant Search has replaced older
methods. You should be using Instant Search in your Contacts Folder.
Searching the address book interface is and always has been a poor choice.
