How do I put animation in a graph chart?

I have a bar graph chart on a powerpoint presentation, and would like to
place animation so that the specific bars emerge when I click on them, for
now I can only place a custom animation on the entire chart as 1 item, what I
would like is to select items within the chart.

I am not really sure wether this option is available. I'm using PPT 2003, and
I couldn't choose any animation, I placed a bar graph chart on a power point
page, and I would like to select each bar individually to appear when I click

The ability to do this type of animation depends on a combination of the
type of chart and the animation selected.

animating individual elements in a chart in PPT 2003. Could be used in PPT
2002 as well.

Basically --

apply animation to chart
double-click chart in animation taskpane (or choose Effect Options from
dropdown arrow)
Select "group by" option on Chart tab

That doesn't mean you cannot animate indivdual series or categories in PPT
2000/97 (because you can), it just means that those particular instrux will
work for PPT 2002/2003.
