How do I Protect worksheet and use filters also in excel?

I create many spreadsheets for users. I unlock all the cells where they are
allowed to enter data and protect the sheet after that. Up to this point
everything is fine. But when I have autofilter attached to the table it
cannot be used by the users because autofilter only works when the sheet is
unprotected. Is there a way I can still protect the formulated cells and use
autofilter?

If you already have the outline/subtotals/autofilter applied, you can protect
the worksheet in code (auto_open/workbook_open??).

Option Explicit
Sub auto_open()
With Worksheets("sheet1")
.Protect Password:="hi", userinterfaceonly:=True
'.EnableOutlining = True
.EnableAutoFilter = True
End With
End Sub

It needs to be reset each time you open the workbook. (excel doesn't remember
it after closing the workbook.)
