How do I preview attached pictures without opening each picture?

I recently converted to Outlook 2003. I am having trouble viewing pictures
sent by family. I can view the pictures, but have to open each picture as an
attachment. In Outlook Express, the pictures automatically showed up as a
preview in the Reading Pane. I have searched online help, and have been
unable to correct this problem.

By design, Outlook does not display attached images inline. Outlook is a
business application. OE is targeted to consumers and the needs of the two
groups are different in this area. Exchange Administrators consider inline
display a security issue and don't want it.

Outlook only shows images inline with HTML mail items or RTF mail items with
OLE embedded images. Images in plain text mail items only show as
attachments (that you can open or save).

That's a bummer, and a real pain, but thank you for your help. I understand
that this program is a business application, but it sure would be nice if we
had the option to choose, maybe make it password protected in business
applications, so employees could not change it, but when used in personal
applications you can. (I use it to syncronize with my blackberry) Once again,
I appreciate your time and help.

Never hurts to register your suggestions or requests.
You can send Outlook feature requests a number of ways, all listed here:
