I don't use Outlook for email. So all these email hyperlinks are anoying.
They open Outlook when I really want them to open Yahoo mail, or less
preferable, just do nothing. Is there a way to disable email hyperlinks?

From a Google Search on "make yahoo default":

- A freeware not related to Yahoo! that gives you POP3 capabilities with
a client such as Outlook Express and others. All information is
available at their website, including how to set it up.
http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/

- To setup yahoo email as your default mail using Internet Explorer.
Click this link for instructions.

or..

To set up Yahoo email as your default mail using Firefox 3 (Yahoo now
recommends you use this browser.):
* Download and install Firefox 3 http://downloads.yahoo.com/?p=win
* After installation and when you have Firefox 3 up and running, click
"tools", then "options".
* In the options window that pops up, click the applications tab.
* Scroll down to “mailto†and change to “use yahoo mailâ€
* Finally click “OKâ€.

Internet Options -> Programs tab
For e-mail, in the drop-down list, select the blank entry (i.e., do NOT
select a default e-mail client to associate with mailto: URLs).

Yahoo Mail is an e-mail service, not an e-mail client. If you want an
e-mail agent for Yahoo Mail, you'll have to get their ActiveX control
which can then be added to the Programs -> E-mail list mentioned above
so you can select to use that one as the default e-mail client. Yahoo
used to provide its ActiveX control separately but discontinued when
they rolled it into their Toolbar. Even if you can find a download of
just their ActiveX control, it may not work reliably with Yahoo Mail due
to all the changes made to that service since they discontinued
distributing that old ActiveX control. So you could install their Yahoo
Toolbar which adds Yahoo Mail as a selectable e-mail client in Internet
Options -> Programs -> Email. What happens then is that clicking on a
mailto: URL will pass the request to the default e-mail client which is
the Yahoo ActiveX control which opens your web browser to the Yahoo Mail
service. If you don't care for them occupying space in your web browser
(i.e., you don't want to see or use their toobar), disable it in the web
browser by customizing the toolbar selections. The ActiveX control will
still be available to use as a default e-mail client selection but you
won't be nuisanced with their toolbar showing up in your web browser.

1. Install the latest version of Yahoo Messenger.

2. Select Yahoo Mail as your default in Set Programs Access and Defaults,
and in IE Tools | Internet Options | Programs | Email.
